Kirkwood School District Changes Discipline Policy

On August 20th, the Kirkwood School Board adopted, unanimously, a new discipline policy that eliminates suspensions in elementary schools (through 5th grade), except as required by law. This new policy promotes restorative practices and trauma awareness, two concepts advocated by the report of the Ferguson Commission. Attached is a photo of just a few of the WE CAN folks and other community members who helped make this happen. Thanks to every one who met with a board candidate or member, delivered a statement at a board meeting, attended a board meeting, served on a district committee, talked with an administrator or teacher or parent, participated in a strategy session, paid for pizza, provided child care, or helped spread the word and support the cause in any other way.
